Fsa wing pro handlebars9/9/2023 ![]() ![]() A 25.4mm clamp stem will be too small for a 31.8mm thick handlebar, and vice versa. The most common diameters are 25.4mm and 31.8mm - in most cases your old handlebar or stem will have this information written on it, so you'll know what to order. Which brings us onto point 2: Handlebars have to fit your bike - or to be more specific your stem. Road Cycling doesn't really have as many different sub-disciplines as Mountain Biking - so unless you're after an aerodynamic Time Trialling bar, then any road handlebar will be suitable for regular road riding - you just need to ensure that it fits you and your bike! Handlebar diameters and widths ![]() The old adage is Strong, Light & Cheap - pick any two - and this certainly applies to handlebars (although I do try my best to find you bargains to try and beat these criteria!) Ideally you should look at a handlebar which is a healthy balance between being strong enough for your riding style, as well as not being overly heavy. Similarly, heavy 400g downhill handlebars may be a bit overkill for a lightweight XC steed. With point 1, you should bear in mind that for the most part lightweight carbon bars are not designed for the forces associated with hard downhill mountain biking - they run the risk of snapping under this conditions. Is this bar suitable for the type of riding I do?.Riser bars are usually more associated with downhill (DH), free riding, Enduro and other similar styles of riding that control is deemed more important than aerodynamics.Įssentially the things you should bear in mind when looking to buy a new bar are: Traditionally a flat bar is more associated with cross country (XC) riding, as it puts the rider's controls in a more streamlined position - however riser bars can also be used in this discipline. If mountain biking, then you'll need a flat or riser bar. If it's road, then you'll almost certainly want a dropped road bar. The first criteria to establish is which form of riding you will be using the handlebar for. Handlebars come in all shapes and sizes, depending on rider preference and also discipline. Welcome to my Handlebar section This is where I attempt to find you the best bar bargains on the internet! But before you snap up a deal, you'll need to bear a few items in mind - here's my guide :) ![]()
